Kris Wilson Flies with the Ravens
Now in his 8th year in the National Football League, Kris Wilson has landed in Baltimore as one of the newest Ravens.
"It's sort of like a homecoming," Kris says. "Being close, it's easier to touch base back home when I have free windows of time."
Geographically, he has come kind of full circle in his football career. After graduating from JP McCaskey High School (Lancaster, Pa.) in 1999, Kris travelled several hours west to the University of Pittsburgh, where he enjoyed a successful collegiate football career and graduated with a degree in Economics. In 2004, he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs and went on to spend four years in Missouri. And after a brief training camp stop in Philadelphia with the Eagles, he was signed by the San Diego Chargers. Three years later, he finds himself back on the east coast about an hour and a half from home.
The move is sure to benefit The Kris Wilson Foundation, also.
"Obviously, it allows me to be more visible than when I was in Kansas City (Missouri) or California," he says.
There are a few drawbacks: After spending three years in the year-round sunny, moderate weather in San Diego, Kris has to readjust to east coast weather that is surely to bring sub-freezing temperatures at least part of the year. But, he says, he doesn't believe the overall adjustment to the East coast will be too difficult.
"I'm familiar with the culture and demeanor of the people on the East Coast," he says. "And I can definitely feel the population density on the east coast, as opposed to southern California where things are more spread out.
Kris says he is excited about being part of the Ravens' organization; however, the work is still the same. "And I have to get up earlier for work and drive further to get home."
